One with the Water® Receives Generous Donation From Speedo® to Assist in Teaching Childrens Swimming Lessons

Los Angeles, CA — July 28, 2012

With 65 children taking swimming lessons funded by a grant from the Coast 2 Coast Swim Challenge, Founder Kenneth Rippetoe was excited to see a huge package show up on One with the Water®’s doorstep. It included an abundance of fins, snorkels and goggles from Speedo USA, the industry leader in swimwear and swim accessories. These supplies are critical in helping One with the Water continue their mission of teaching childrens Swimming Lessons. The partnership has also allowed them to grant additional swim scholarships and change the lives of hundreds of needy children.

When asked what the donation and partnership with Speedo® meant to him, Mr. Rippetoe replied, “I was so excited because I knew that it meant that we could help more children get the physical and emotional therapy through swimming that so many children desperately need. To be connected with Speedo® is a dream come true and we can’t wait to surprise our kids with their amazing products.”

At One with the Water, children’s swimming Lessons include dry-land exercises that are great for strength, balance, spatial orientation and anatomical awareness. We are firm believers in the importance of this sort of “cross-training” for swimmers, and it’s not something most teams do until much later in life (and then it’s mostly focused on strength). Having a mix of dry-land and pool-based activity actually gives kids a better framework for understanding verbal swimming instructions. It also makes it easier to correct the “bad habits” and postural imbalances that often develop in swimmers. For some children, equipment such as that provided by Speedo®, helps to add to the resistance and drag felt while swimming. This small extra drag created on their bodies forces swimmers to use more muscle and to become acutely aware of their limbs and movements.

One with the Water® is excited about the future of this relationship and the impact Speedo USA has helped it make.
